Chua Kee Seafood Restaurant

The best way to celebrate friendship in group of 10 in the most asian, or rather Chinese way possible is having zi-char. Most importantly, at a round table. If you’re not familiar with the concept, zi char(煮炒)literally means ‘cook and fry’ and basically composes of a la carte dishes with white steamed rice and sometimes a hearty soup.

That tuesday night saw us driving over to Johor Bahru for dinner and what can I say? It’s not everyday you have to remind yourself to bring your passport to work.

pork奶油五花肉/ Buttered Five Flower Pork

This was probably my favourite dish of the night. Crunchy, sweet and salty all at the same time. As unhealthy as this phrase seems, “always better with butter”.

I have a love-hate relationship with prawns. To put it simply, I love them peeled and gleamingly ready for my indulgence. The hate kicks in when the hassle of peeling them & removing their stuffed intestines come into play, especially when hunger levels are at its peak. That goes to show, however, that you’ll only put in that bit of extra effort if really want it.

The brazen sheen of honey on them wings are tantamount to its taste, which adds a nice flavour to your classic chicken wings.

Finally it was time for some full on hard-shelled crabs. Besides the Black Pepper Crab, we also had a Salted Egg Crab, both as meaty and finger-licking as crabs can get. Desserts aside, it’s definitely the best way and most necessary way to end a seafood meal.

Note: If you’re ever at this seafood restaurant, ensure that you buy their lobster crackers (keropok)! They were, for lack of a better word, really good. For 10RM, you’d get 1 bag that consists of three huge packs. We burst one open as an appetizer whilst waiting for our food to be served and by the end of the meal, our entire table left with about 13 packs. Just saying.
